Dr. Sándor Kürti to sit on the judging panel of this year’s competition,Budapest, 9 May 2006 – Chairman of KÜRT Zrt, Dr. Sándor Kürti, is about to become the first representative of the Hungarian business community to take part in selecting the world’s best entrepreneur. The “World Entrepreneur Of The Year®” contest is organised by Ernst & Young, and the award ceremony will be held in Monte Carlo in June. The event, which is now in its sixth year, is regarded as the “Oscars” of the business world.
Dr. Sándor Kürti, chairman of KÜRT Zrt, will have the opportunity to decide, together with his eight fellow judges, who will win the coveted prize. The venue will be Monte Carlo, on 6-11 June, where top business people from 32 countries will compete for the highest accolade in business, the title of Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year®.
Ernst & Young first launched the award in 1986 in America to honour entrepreneurs whose ingenuity, hard work and perseverance have created and sustained successful, growing business ventures. This year for the sixth time, the winners of the various national Ernst & Young “Entrepreneur of the Year” contests, now in their 20th year, will also have the opportunity to compete at international level. The ceremony will be broadcast live by CNBC television, thereby ensuring a global audience for the event.
Dr. Sándor Kürti won the Hungarian Entrepreneur of the Year contest in 2005, thus earning a nomination to enter the running for last year’s Ernst & Young World Entrepreneur Of The Year® award. Following this auspicious debut, Dr. Kürti was selected as a member of the independent international judging panel, in recognition of his exemplary and globally acclaimed performance over several decades, and his company’s innovative developments in the areas of information security and data retrieval, as well as the company’s good corporate citizenship.
“It is a great honour to be given this opportunity to play an active part in the most prestigious business event in the world, and to represent Hungary, a country where knowledge and innovation take first place. Monte Carlo will host a meeting of the most extraordinary business minds, who – although they come from differing cultures and face differing challenges – are all driven by the same motivation…” said Dr. Kürti.
The members of the independent judging panel are selected on the basis of the business results they have achieved, as well as their individual philosophy and outlook. They are all defining members of various spheres of scientific or economic life, who have been invited to sit on the panel because of their business conduct or scientific research. For several years the panel has been chaired by Howard Stevenson, provost of the Harvard Business School and author of the business bestsellers Do Lunch or Be Lunch and Just Enough.
